What is a single-pole transformer substation

1. What is a single-pole transformer substation?

A single-pole transformer substation is a static electromagnetic device that operates on the principle of electromagnetic induction, capable of changing voltage while maintaining the frequency of the alternating current system. This new type of compact single-pole substation is a substation where the transformer is installed on a single pole made of centrifugal concrete or a single steel pole.

2. Applications of Single-Pole Transformer Substations

Single-pole compact transformer substations are used to provide medium voltage power to industries, residential areas, and other complex construction areas.

3. Usage Conditions for Single-Pole Transformer Substations

The substations are compact, independent, and easy to operate and maintain, even on public sidewalks and industrial areas. All operations can be performed by opening the front door of the substation.

4. Structure of Vintec Single-Pole Transformer Substations

A single-pole transformer substation consists of 4 main parts: a single-pole enclosure, a medium voltage compartment, a low voltage compartment, and a transformer. Each part of the compact substation undertakes the task of helping the equipment operate efficiently and sustainably.

4.1. Single-pole compact substation enclosure

The single-pole substation enclosure protects the internal equipment, limits environmental impact, and ensures user safety. It also serves as a support pole for the transformer above. The single-pole enclosure is made of steel plates with thicknesses of 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, etc., and is powder-coated. Standard color: RAL Dimensions: 1400W – H2530 – D1240

4.2. Medium voltage compartment of the Single-pole transformer substation

The medium voltage compartment of the substation is similar to an RMU (Ring Main Unit). It contains equipment such as fuses, circuit breakers, medium voltage switches, etc. The medium voltage compartment is separated from other compartments by insect-proof mesh. Dedicated relays or LBS+fuse can be installed to protect the medium voltage compartment.

4.3. Low voltage compartment of the single-pole compact transformer substation

This compartment houses various measuring, protection, and switching devices for the transformer, according to IEC 60947-2 standards. The main low voltage cabinet uses an ACB/MCCB with different ratings depending on the requirements.

4.4. Transformer

Unlike enclosed single-pole compact substations where the transformer is placed inside, in single-pole compact substations, the transformer is placed on top of the single pole with supporting brackets and a canopy to reduce the impact of weather and enhance safety. It can be a single-phase transformer, a three-phase transformer, or an amorphous transformer, etc. The transformer of the single-pole compact substation also has the following characteristics: Wiring type: Yzn or Dyn. Capacity: 160kVA, 200kVA, 250kVA, 400kVA, 560kVA, 630kVA, 750kVA, 1000kVA. Secondary voltage: 220/440V.

    • Overload and short-circuit protection and switching devices from ABB, Schneider, Siemens, LS, Hyundai,…
    • Main circuit breaker, outgoing line protection and switching devices, low voltage cables, grounding system, and other auxiliary equipment: meters, current transformers, clocks, switches, indicator lights, fuses, surge arresters from reputable domestic and foreign manufacturers.

7. Testing of single-pole compact substations

Testing the single-pole compact substation during the production process is one of the mandatory steps that must be followed in accordance with the strict requirements of current power testing regulations. It is also a standard procedure that Vintec Group has implemented for all products before they are delivered to customers. Kiosk substations are considered the heart of the power transmission and distribution system. Therefore, they must be fully and rigorously tested before being put into operation. This is an essential step that cannot be skipped, because if the equipment malfunctions or breaks down, the entire power system will be severely affected. Vintec Group has invested in a transformer testing laboratory with a modern synchronous equipment system from HAEFELY, Switzerland, ensuring absolutely accurate testing.

8. Storage and transportation of single-pole transformer substations

Policies for transporting and storing transformers and single-pole substations before connecting to the power grid system. Vintec always supports customers with transportation and provides guidance on proper product storage procedures to ensure the best product quality when used.

8.1. Storage of single-pole transformer substations:

When the substation is not yet put into operation, it must be kept in a dry place, preferably in a covered warehouse. Substations should not be placed too close to each other to avoid damaging heat dissipation components and other attached equipment.

8.2. Transportation of single-pole transformer substations:

The substation must be kept upright and absolutely not tilted. It must be securely fastened to prevent movement during transportation, and should not be tied to the corrugated cooling fins or porcelain insulators. When transported by Vintec’s transportation vehicles, the speed should not exceed 30km/h.
